Chain link fence standards: ASTM A392, F1083 and the CLFMI manual

Chain link fence standards: ASTM A392, F1083 and the CLFMI manual

Chain link fence quality in North America is defined by the Chain Link Fence Manufacturers Institute (CLFMI) Product Manual and the ASTM standards it references. The manual is the specification architects, contractors and government agencies write to.

The core fabric coatings each have a standard: ASTM A392 (zinc-coated / galvanized steel fabric), ASTM A491 (aluminium-coated), ASTM F1345 (zinc-5% aluminium-mischmetal alloy) and ASTM F668 (polymer-coated over metallic). Framework pipe is commonly specified to ASTM F1083 (hot-dip galvanized steel pipe).

For importers, quoting 'chain link fence' without these designations invites mismatches. A clean specification states the fabric standard and coating weight, the wire gauge and mesh size, and the framework standard — so the delivered fence matches what was approved.

Leeter produces chain link fence fabric and framework to ASTM A392 / F1083 and international equivalents, galvanized or PVC-coated, in fabric rolls or finished panels. Send the coating, gauge and mesh you need and we will confirm production and loading.
